Establishing a Places of Worship Security Task Force
On May 15, City Council unanimously passed my motion that requested the Toronto Police Services Board consider and report back on the feasibility of establishing a Places of Worship Security Task Force. This is a great milestone as all Places of Worship in Toronto need help through a comprehensive safety and security plan and now we need to work to get the Provincial and Federal governments to join in this task force.
Public Safety Canada also announced that it was quadrupling its funding to the Security Infrastructure Program to help protect our religious and cultural organizations against hate-motivated crime. As seen in the 2019 Federal Budget, there is now $4 million available per year until 2022 and the program has expanded the list of eligible expenditures.
Please keep this important initiative going. Contact your local Provincial and Federal Members and continue asking them to keep working to protect our Jewish communities.
